The Cook Book is the best contemporary companion to Homer's Turkish geography. It not only contains Cook's own extensive survey but includes much from Strabo, W Leaf and H Schliemann. The maps of Turkish village names are extremely valuable but would be more useful if they showed roads and tracks. We sought Marpessa but failed to find a trail into the hinterland and so will need to return (with the Cook Book) next year. For some reason Cook ignores Tenedos (Bozcaada). Travel in the Troad adds enormously to the study of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey and Cook's survey is worth it weight in your luggage.
