Summary, etc. |
Solomon built the first Temple at Jerusalem, and this is perhaps the most famous one. After the return of the Jewish exiles from Babylon, a second, more modest Temple was built on the same site. Ezekiel's vision of the Temple greatly influenced the design of the grandiose building erected by Herod, which was destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D. Today the Moslem Haram esh-Sherif stands on the site of the Temple. Professor Andre Parrot gives an enthralling account of these various buildings, with a wealth of interesting archaeological and historical detail. |
