Die deutschen Ausgrabungen in Pergamon zählen zu den erfolgreichsten Unternehmungen der deutschen klassischen Altertumswissenschaft. Von den Königlichen Museen zu Berlin in den Jahren 1878 bis 1886 begonnen, werden die Grabungen vor Ort bis heute fortgeführt, und dies mit spektakulären Ergebnissen! Pergamon war im 3. und 2. Jahrhundert vor Christus Hauptstadt eines mächtigen Reiches, das große Teile der heutigen Türkei beherrschte. Erstmals präsentiert die Berliner Antikensammlung nun eine umfassende Gesamtschau zur Kunst und Geschichte dieser hellenistischen Königsresidenz. Der opulente Begleitband beschäftigt sich in zahlreichen Aufsätzen auf dem aktuellen Forschungsstand umfassend mit der Geschichte und Kultur des antiken Pergamon, behandelt dabei Themen wie Topographie und Architektur, Herrscher und Hof, Kulte und Heiligtümer, Skulptur und Handwerk und vieles mehr. Der anschließende Katalog besticht durch seine zahlreichen Farbabbildungen und stellt die einzelnen Objekte detailliert in Wort und Bild vor. |
