Apart from the “land Hatti” with the capital of Hattusa, also the “upper land” was of great significance for the Hittite Empire although only the towns of Kusakli-Sarissa and Kayalipinar [=Šamuha?] have partly been excavated so far. The analysed pottery consists of more than 4,180 vessel sherds of 3,770 vessel units from building B [layer 4-3, Early / Middle Hittite to Early Imperial, until 14th cent. B.C.] excavated in 2005-9 on the south-eastern hill of Kayalipinar, distr. Yildizeli, prov. Sivas. The elongated square building was 18 m by 36 m, directed north-south, had several phases and two storeys, and formed an open square with its south-western neighbour, building A. The two houses together probably represent the palace complex of a local public officer. The pottery is dominated by uncoated wares and bowls or dishes, but rarer wares and types are present, too. Analyses revealed a standardisation of Hittite pottery despite its very different sizes. The finds permit comparisons of the -apparently cultural specific - activity zones of building B and other contemporaneous structures and thus a bridging between the Anatolian, Cypriot, Aegean, and Levantine-Egyptian cultural spheres. |

Neben dem “Land Hatti” mit der Hauptstadt Hattuša war auch das “Obere Land” von großer Bedeutung für das Hethiterreich, obwohl bisher nur die Städte Kusakli-Sarissa und Kayalipinar [=Šamuha?] angegraben wurden. Bei der untersuchten Gefäßkeramik handelt es sich um über 4.180 Scherben von 3.770 Gefäßeinheiten aus dem 2005-2009 ergrabenen Gebäude B [Schicht 4-3, althethitisch / mittelhethitisch bis frühe Großreichszeit, bis 14. Jh. v.Chr.] auf dem Südosthügel von Kayalipinar, Kr. Yildizeli, Prov. Sivas. Der 18 m x 36 m große Bau war N-S-gerichtet, langrechteckig, mehrphasig und zweigeschossig und bildete mit dem süd[west]lichen Nachbarbau A eine Freifläche und wohl die Palastanlage eines regionalen Amtsträgers. Bei der Keramik überwiegen tongrundige Waren sowie Schalen und Schüsseln, aber auch seltene Waren und Formen liegen vor. Die Analysen ergaben eine Standardisierung hethitischer Keramik trotz sehr unterschiedlicher Größen. Die Funde erlauben Vergleiche der - offenbar kulturspezifischen - Aktivitätszonen in Bau B und zeitgleichen Gebäuden und damit einen Brückenschlag zwischen dem anatolischen, zyprischen, ägäischen und levantinisch-ägyptischen Kulturbereich. |
